Chapter synopsis: Different molecular aspects of avian viruses are presented such as the role and importance of capsid proteins and viral glycoproteins in viral pathogenesis, in development of diagnostic methods and the creation of recombinant vaccines is discussed. Mechanisms of viral evolution such as mutation, recombination and reassortment are included, and their role in the origin of diverse influenza, infectious bursal disease, avian reovirus is commented.
