Chapter synopsis: Every year, millions of broilers, turkeys and laying hens are raised to supply eggs and meat to an increasing number of consumers. Along with the growth of the commercial poultry industry, waste generated in live production operations and processing plants has become an important environmental concern because of the major pollutants entering our water, air and soil. This chapter will discuss the main environmental impacts of intensive poultry production and explain the role of precise feed formulation as a strategy to increase the efficiency of nutrient utilization, and ultimately, reduce the negative effects of poultry waste on the environment to achieve sustainable production of poultry products
