Chapter synopsis:

This chapter discusses key challenges for increased uptake of alternative livestock feed sources. It focuses on the key parameters to assess circular feed, such as low land use ratio, food/feed grade status, proximity to the feed mill and nutrient digestibility. The chapter also evaluates the relationship between food and feed, then goes on to discuss the use of a framework to assess the footprint of circular feed. A section on current market demand driving circular feed production is also included, which is then followed by an overview of a regulatory framework for new, innovative circular feed production.
