Chapter synopsis: Due to global change, there is a need to question most of the practices used to establish forests. This chapter provides discussion of the current issues for most of the key processes of forest establishment and highlights the importance of the choice of genetic material in the establishment of plantation forests. It confirms that more knowledge and accurate decision support will be needed in the near future and that new resilience strategies are required.
