Chapter synopsis:

This chapter discusses: (1) how cool season grass cover crops affect soil properties, nutrient cycling, pest and disease control, weed control, and subsequent cash crop yields, and (2) key issues or challenges in integrating grass cover crops into crop rotations. Because soil erosion control benefits of cover crops are relatively well known, especially when cover crops produce abundant biomass, this chapter focuses more on other soil and crop parameters.
