Chapter synopsis:

It has been argued that long-term and excessive dependence on use of mineral fertilisers in crop nutrition has had negative effects on soil and the wider environment. This has created an opportunity for organo-mineral fertilisers (OMF), which involve co-formulating at least one organic and one mineral material into a novel fertiliser product, as an alternative approach. The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of the role of OMF as an alternative source of bio-based fertiliser in agriculture, highlighting both their advantages and disadvantages.
