Chapter synopsis: This chapter surveys the potential ethical issues and problems that surround weed science as a subdivision of agriculture. These include the implications of herbicide resistance, invasive species, the introduction of biotech/Genetically Modified Organisms and concerns about sustainability. This chapter focuses particularly on sustainability as an ethical goal of weed science, arguing that truly integrated weed management requires engagement with the broader ethical issues raised by the implementation of new technologies.
