Chapter synopsis:

This chapter presents an update of trends on insecticide resistance in Northwest Europe. It addresses the current status and future estimations of the insecticide market in Europe, specifically in context of evolving agricultural practices and environmental challenges. The chapter then explores important cases of insecticide resistance in Northwest Europe, and the drivers behind the resistance. This is shown with four examples: green peach aphids (Myzus persicae), Colorado potato beetles (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), two-spotted spider mites (Tetranychus urticae), and common house mosquitoes (Culex pipiens). It is then followed by sections touching on insecticide resistance detection, monitoring, and management. The chapter concludes with recommendations and future perspectives on the matter.
