Chapter synopsis: This chapter discusses advances in breeding of guava. It reviews the floral biology of the fruit and highlights the major problems facing the guava industry worldwide. It goes on to discuss the various methods for improving guava production such as heritability, the introduction of new cultivars, selection and hybridization. The chapter also reviews biotechnological techniques, genetic mapping and micropropagation of guava.
