Chapter synopsis: This chapter provides a revised classification of sorghum. It sets out a generalized classification of cultivated sorghum from which a more precise working group can be defined to explain the variation within the chosen race. The classification is presented in a format that would be useful in breeding programmes as breeders look to incorporate exotic germplasm into their breeding lines and hybrids.
