Chapter synopsis: This chapter summarizes recent advances in understanding the genetics of barley development and architecture. In particular it discusses developments in understanding: barley plant structure and morphology; molecular control of vegetative development; and molecular control of reproductive development. Finally, the chapter looks at the implications of these developments for breeding more resilient and productive varieties.
