Chapter synopsis: As machine vision technology becomes ever more readily available it is of increasing value to agriculture. This chapter seeks to outline the principles that will endure as the technology changes and to point out areas in which it can be applied. After examining basic concepts of machine vision, the chapter looks at the various tools available for implementing machine vision and the tasks to which this technology can be applied. Finally, the chapter looks ahead to future trends in this area.
