M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, University of Dhaka, BangladeshChapter synopsis: This chapter examines the financial support available to women smallholders in Bangladesh. The study uses data from the 2010 Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) with a sample size of 12,240 households. Both descriptive and multivariate analyses are applied. Findings reveal that just 17.3% of women smallholders have access to credit, with an average loan sizes of approximately Taka 58,000 (approximately £380). Key factors influencing access to credit include the marital status of the household head, the number of younger household members, minority status, business ownership, asset ownership, and district labor participation rate. Additionally, factors such as the number of younger household members, minority status, business ownership, and asset ownership also significantly affected the total amount of credit received.
