It begins by first highlighting current decision tools for optimizing manure management, then goes on to review modifying animal slurry pH to enhance its value as a biobased fertilizer through methods such as bio acidification and alkalinization. A section on improving manure management systems to minimize trade-offs is also provided, followed by an overview of combining manure management with anaerobic digestion. The chapter also reviews pre- and post-treatment for anaerobic digestion as well as the optimization of anaerobic digestion operations to optimize digestate quality.
