Each team member brings a unique set of skills, experiences and perspectives with them that allows us to continue to support sustainable agriculture through the provision of trusted knowledge. THE FOUNDERS 

ROB BURLEIGH MANAGING DIRECTOR 

Rob Burleigh has worked in academic publishing for almost 30 years. His career started at Woodhead Publishing in 1995 where he rose from the ranks of an Accounts Assistant and IT manager to become the Finance Director in the early 2000’s. In 2015 Rob set up a new business with former Woodhead colleagues, Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing, where he is now Managing Director responsible for strategy, operations and sales and marketing. 

FRANCIS DODDS EDITORIAL DIRECTOR 

Francis Dodds has worked in academic publishing for almost 40 years and has held positions at Longman, Stanley Thornes and Woodhead Publishing, where he was Editorial Director from 2000 to 2014. In 2015 Francis set up a new business with former Woodhead colleagues, Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing, where he is now Editorial Director responsible for commissioning in agricultural science.  

THE DIRECTORS 

Starting out in publishing as a van driver for Macmillan in 1966, Martin became their sales representative for East Anglia. In 1969 he joined the fledgling Gower Press as sales manager and then started his first company, Woodhead-Faulkner (Publishers) Limited in Cambridge in 1972. After 15 years of growth in the fields of finance, disability and sponsored cook books, Woodhead-Faulkner was acquired by Simon & Schuster in 1987. In 1989 Martin formed Woodhead Publishing Limited in Cambridge which expanded steadily in the fields of materials science, engineering, textiles, food science, finance and library science, until its acquisition by Elsevier in 2013. He is now retired and is an investor in and Chairman of Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing Limited. Martin takes an active role in the work of the Stationers’ Company in London and is a Patron of the Independent Publishers Guild. 
John held the position of a non-executive director at Woodhead Publishing for 15 years. Previous positions in his career includes working for publishers Phaidon, HarperCollins and Continuum. For many years, John co-owned and ran the Russian book wholesaler, Centercom and John Parsons bookshops in several cities. He has also consulted for many publishers, organisations and institutions in the UK, Europe and Russia. 
Jill Jones
Former MD/CEO for global academic publishers McGraw-Hill Education EMEA and Cengage EMEA, Jill’s career began in higher education sales after her tenure as research assistant in 19th century agriculture. An experienced general manager within academic, schools and vocational publishing, Jill now divides her post-consulting career – with clients including Cambridge University Press, Thomson Learning, and Oxford University Press - between a number of non-executive roles, including tech start-ups and SMEs. She was formerly a non-executive Director and Board member at Bloomsbury Publishing PLC, Edinburgh University Press, and for distributor TLN (The Learning Network) in the Netherlands.

THE TEAM 

MATT DE BONO SALES MANAGER 

Matt is an experienced publishing professional, with managerial and director level experience in a range of areas (Sales, Marketing, Digital Development). Matt has worked for a number of academic and professional publishers in both salaried and freelance positions. 

AMANDA RENWICK COMMISSIONING EDITOR 

Amanda is an MA publishing graduate who studied at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. She is a graduate of Greenwich University where she studied English Literature, majoring in Creative Writing. Amanda’s desire to work in publishing has been well supported by some prestigious work experience assignments at Bloomsbury, Penguin Children’s unit, the educational publisher, Rising Stars and a short stint with us prior to joining the team in January 2017. In her previous role, Amanda was responsible for managing the delivery of content and production processes. In her new role as Commissioning Editor, Amanda will support the Editorial Director (Francis Dodds) in commissioning new titles to expand the already well-established agricultural list. 

KATHERINE PEACOCK MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER 

Katherine is an MA Publishing graduate who attained her degree from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. She was awarded a Postgraduate Bursary from The Stationers' Company in 2018 to support her studies, as well as support in the form of a mentor. Katherine also completed her BA Hons in Creative Writing and English Literature at Anglia Ruskin University. After completing a brief internship in 2018 with us, she was offered a full-time position in 2019. Katherine's role is to forge and develop relationships with key stakeholders in the agricultural science community, from academia and research to those working in the industry.  

CARA DUTTAROY EDITORIAL ASSISTANT 

Cara is an MA Philosophy graduate of the University of Southampton where she also completed her undergraduate programme in Economics and Philosophy. Prior to joining the team as an Editorial Assistant in 2023, she was the Assistant Editor for the Southampton Journal of Postgraduate Humanities. Cara’s role is to manage the delivery of content, maintain manuscript workflow and support authors throughout the editorial process.
